Bali, Indonesia
Island of the Gods
The mystical island of Bali is one of those rare holiday destinations that offers something for everyone, and this is the reason why we, at Karma Developments, choose to call Bali ‘home’, not only for ourselves but also for many of our prospective buyers.
Known as the ‘Land of a Thousand Temples’, Bali is picturesque to the point of resembling a painted backdrop. Its diversity ranges from sophisticated hotels, classy restaurants, an upbeat nightlife and unlimited shopping to a blissful paradise of sandy beaches, hand-carved rice terraces, fast flowing rivers, towering volcanoes and primeval rainforests. This natural splendour is combined with an exotic history, a flavoursome cuisine and a rich spiritual culture defined by palaces, temples, flower-scented festivals and gorgeous arts.
Positioned eight degrees south of the equator and measuring just 140 x 80 kilometres, Bali is one of the smallest, yet most visited, of Indonesia’s islands, and is home to nearly three million Hindus - the only Hindu society in the whole of Southeast Asia. The sunny tropical climate is characterised by half-yearly alternating seasonal wind patterns; the ocean spawns a flourishing ecosystem, and the surf breaks are legendary.
The island’s ever-prevailing sense of harmony is combined with a vibrant theatre of dance, mystery and romance. From the moment you arrive, an intense concentration of colour, sights, smells, sounds and tastes will assail you with the same force as the warm tropical air. The compact size of this destination means that most of the breathtaking scenery and tourist attractions are easily accessible through day trips. Outdoor activities abound from watersports, surfing, golfing and diving, to adventure tours, eco-tours and theme parks. What’s more, just about every attraction on the island is child-friendly!
Bali blends its beautiful nature and colourful culture with world-class architecture and facilities. A carefree sense of luxury presents sophisticated lounge clubs, internationally-acclaimed restaurants, delectable delicatessens, graceful galleries and chic boutiques. The island also hosts the highest concentration of spas in the whole of Southeast Asia, and has become a magnet for those seeking an indulgence that will ease fatigue, stimulate the senses and awaken the spirit.
The Balinese Hindus believe that their extraordinary island is a gift from the gods; these warm, gentle, friendly people refer to tourists as ‘tamu’, meaning guests. Few places on earth celebrate life with such vitality!
